Research into the Spanton Jarman Captions

The captions for these photographs have been written by a team of volunteers, each conducting their own research, with help and guidance from local historians, Clive Paine and Margaret Statham.

Clive Paine has acted as editor to the project,
Betty Milburn has acted as project co-ordinator, and
Chris Austin from The Internet Consultancy has created the website.

Over the Spring and Summer of 2011, Betty Milburn and Patricia Mackie have spent many hours at the Suffolk Record Office entering titles and captions into their database and have achieved the following:

• All images have correct titles and dates where possible
• Captions have been checked and corrected where necessary.
• All images have been given a category code & lists recorded
• Duplicates have been removed
• Lists of captions still required have been attached to the files in the record office.
• Agreed with RO for revised data to be transported to Chris to add to our website.

• Hardwick House portraits have proved to be particularly complex. Several were duplicated because the reference numbers used were so widely different that they fell into different files. We have broken them into two groups, "Cullum family portraits" and "Other Portraits". We have been in touch with Dr Keith Cunliffe at West Stow to clarify some queries and he has been able to help us with those portraits that were bequeathed to the Borough council in 1921.
